GOP on Global Trends in International Governance by Prof. Dennis Chookaszian from Columbia Business School – IIPM Chandigarh...

IIPM Chandigarh organized a Global Outreach Program on Global Trends in International Governance on 12th April and the guest of honor was Prof. Dennis Chookaszian from Columbia Business School.

Prof. Chookaszian is currently the chairman of FASAC (Financial Accounting Standards Advisory Council) which provides guidance to the FASB (Financial Accounting Standards Board) on accounting matters. He is also a member of the FCAG (Financial Crisis Advisory Group) which is the international commission that was created to develop recommendations to solve the financial reporting problems associated with the current economic problems.

During his career, he has served as a director on the boards of ten publicly traded corporations. He is currently a director of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, the world’s largest derivatives exchange, Career Education, a private post secondary education provider, Loop Net, an internet based commercial real estate listing service, Ins Web, an internet based insurance purchasing service, and MacDonald Dettwiler, an information services company. He has also been a director of a number of private corporations and has served as an arbitrator in ten diverse cases.

Professor Amit Baruah, Dean IIPM Chandigarh threw a light on evolution of management practices in India and its applicability to the Indian Business Environment along with the factors affecting the same.

The program was attended by IIPM Chandigarh students and eminent individuals representing corporate houses like Quark, Videocon, People Factor, Tata Tele Services, Realtime Management, DLF and SBI who desire to advance to top management positions. The session also focused on the evolution of management practices in the United States and the applicability to the Indian business environment. Further the manner in which its applicable to both public and private corporations and not for profit organizations. The differences in corporate governance in other countries, as well as current trends in corporate governance, was also discussed. It was a very enriching sessions for both the corporates and the student fraternity.
